Paul Costello's music is a unique fusion of two major influences - jazz piano and classical guitar.

He is a composer and an improviser and incorporates both approaches in his music, as well as the fertile territory which lies in between. Although an accomplished electric guitarist and ensemble player Paul has always found himself most drawn to the timbral and orchestral possibilities of the acoustic guitar. Over the years Paul has found his music has been influenced by many musicians, such as Bobo Stenson, John Taylor, John Surman, Jan Garbarek and Paul Bley to name but a few.

Paul is based in Birkenhead and gives a number of guitar concerts and gigs throughout the year where you can hear his music.

The demands of solo performance are in themselves formidable. When this is combined with the rigours and risks of improvisation two things become clear; firstly that it takes at least a lifetime to perfect - and secondly that you have to be a little bit mad to attempt it in the first place.

Paul is also a member of the group Living Music (www.livingmusic.biz) a flexible and ever evolving international collective of creative musicians committed to performing music which crosses all musical borders.
